Last nite we played in Austin, Texas.
The place was off the hook. It was
Mardi Gras on 6th street. And it just
so happens that the gig we played
at was on 6th street. What a coincidence.
Let me give you a quick run down on
Mardi Gras. It all comes down to beer,
boobs and beads. In certain cities
in America, certain Americans flock
by the thousands into a certain area
to drink and stare at boobs. Or if
youre really keen, you can actually
get your boobs out. That’s where
the beads come in. beads are given
to girls as a reward for showing there
tits to whoever the bead bearer may
be. So there you go, you can bear
beads or you can bare boobs, or on
the other hand, you can stand around
and go “what the f*#k is going
on here?”.
To say the least, it was bizarre.
Inside this beautiful little old wooden
club off 6th Street, theres Mason
and The Beautiful Girls playing these
mellow tunes to a mellow crowd, and
outside on the dark and dirty tarmac
of 6th Street, there were about 50
thousand people going nuts all in
the name of beer, boobs and beads.
What a contrast.
Anyway, it was a great nite. It was
an American experience with cheese
y`all.
Now we`re driving thru
the Texas plains on our way to Kubbock
(wherever the hell that is) and then
its on to the desert of New Mexico
and Arizona. I cant wait to get out
to that part of town. Amongst the
farms and flatlands we`re drinving
thru are all these pockets of pint
sized crappy little run down houses
with metal scrap and rusting old cars
in their front yards. Ive been seeing
heaps of long rectangular box houses
that you see in trailer parks but
theres no actual trailer parks. I
don’t think they`re doing that
well for money out here the poor buggers.
My heart goes out to em.
A few miles on now,
and out to my left im looking at a
massive wind farm perched up on this
great big plateau. Its one of the
few plateaus or hills for hundreds
of miles. Ive seen a wind farm in
Victoria, it had about 14 windmills
and I thought that was huge, but this
thing is truly immense. I can see
at least 100-150 windmills all standing
at least 50 metres tall. I wonder
where the power goes? You`d think
they could power the whole of Texas
from here.
Then I look out to my right, and its
dry, grassy flatland as far as the
eye can see. Its all happening out
here.
Was that a skunk wrestling
tumbleweed??
We`re on the edge of
the desert and I can see snow. Whats
going on??
I`ll let y`all know
when I find out.
Gotta go.
Dogs up.
